I have owned the Express RC unit for several weeks and am extremely happy with the small footprint (vent mount), bright display, crystal clear reception even in the hilly rural are where I live, and very useful features that you'll actually want to use. My only hesitation was with what is almost universal negative feedback on XM Radio customer service. Professionally installed with the Audiovox XM Direct module. If you're like me and want a clean look with no loose and dangling wires laying across the dash and console then this is the only way to go even if you car audio system is equipped with an auxilliary port. Most of the complaints are from long term customers over programming changes and difficulty in cancelling subscriptions. But I've taken the leap and only time will tell but so far.so good.
This is the first satellite receiver I have owned and I really relied on customer reviews to pick one. I must say I'm so impressed with this unit. It was incredibly easy to install, the color screen is beautiful and the sound is great. So far I have had no problem at all with the signal.
If I can get the unit working again, I'll deal with it, but otherwise I will pass on another Delphi. I was tickled to pieces. UPDATE: the not working part was totally my fault. I set up a few channels as favorites. Twice when trying, it did show "Please Wait", but nothing. I even had to redo the screen settings. I've refreshed.
This continued to happen on a regular basis and I just finally gave up setting favorites. All my favorites gone. But I was still pretty happy with the unit. I thought I gave ample time to form an objective opinion but even now, I'm still figuring this thing out.
Got this unit in November of 2008. I've checked both the car adapter and the home adapter. Nothing. Aside from those nuisances, it gets pretty shoddy reception in the car on my normal route, but I would guess that's a joint issue between the unit and my location. Now, as of yesterday, the unit no longer powers on. Overall most of this has been user error. One day I hopped in the car, set my XpressRC in the car adapter and it had reset itself to what I assume were factory settings. Plus, in the process of figuring out what was up I refreshed my receiver and things seem to be working fine.
Just no convenient favorites. At All. I haven't checked to see if my favorites are still there, but it hasn't reset the screen settings. I still wish we had better reception but that's no fault of the unit really.
I love the look and features of this unit. I have not put any effort into contacting Delphi, but was very disappointed, maybe they will help when I send back. After much complaining about not my fault or choice they waived the charge but screwed up my subscription for 2 months with on and off and partial service. This is my second unit that I purchased. But, ALL is well now and I hope this one lasts longer. My son bought one 10 months ago and I bought one 7 months ago. It plays well. At first XM wanted $15 to transfer service.
His still plays fine. My first one died after 7 months, the screen went blank. Another story but a very bad experience. Based on its operation and screen style I would buy another one.
We are returning it for a refund. Amazon did a great job of getting a replacement radio to us right away.
I loved the display and the alert features, but then the unit started freezing. None of the buttons would work, not even the power button.
I purchased this unit from Amazon in January 2009. We thought the first time was a fluke, so we gave it another chanced but after the THIRD time it was time to return it.
To restart it we had to completely unplug it from the power supply & when we did this we lost ALL of our settings - all of our Artist/song alerts, all of our saved songs, all of our favorite channels. everything.
Everything was perfect for about a month then the SAME EXACT thing happened again - the unit froze, had to unplug it to reboot, lost all settings but this time the color screen also went away and it became a black & white display. Do we just have bad luck that we got 2 different faulty units or is this a general problem with this unit.
